Responding to an official request made by YSS devotees in that city, the State Government of Karnataka decided to name the road situated adjacent to the YSS Dhyana Mandir, Bengaluru in honour of our Gurudeva Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda. This event formed part of the celebrations to commemorate  the 50th Anniversary of Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra –Bengaluru, which was established in 1965.

On December 30, 2015 the road, an arterial road in the heart of Bengaluru, was officially renamed as “Paramahansa Yogananda Road” at a function held near our Kendra. The inauguration was done by Sri K. J. George, Minister of Town Planning & Development, Karnataka, and presided over by Sri N. A. Haris, MLA of Shantinagar, Bengaluru. Other dignitaries including Sri B. N. Manjunath, Mayor of Bengaluru, Sri.Anand Kumar S. Corporator, ward no 80, President of appellate committee, Bengaluru were also present. Swamis Suddhananda and Madhavananda represented YSS on this occasion.

All the dignitaries spoke about Paramahamsa Yoganandaji’s spiritual contributions to India and the world, and deemed it was very appropriate to keep the memory of such a saint alive in the mind of general public by naming a prominent road in Bengaluru after him. Swami Suddhananda spoke about Paramahansa Yoganandaji’s visits to Mysore and Bengaluru in 1935 and about his love for all humankind.

The function was attended by around 600 people and ended with a spiritual discourse by Swami Suddhananda and prasad distribution to all the devotees.

The day began with the ceremonial arati at 5:45 a.m. after which a Prabhat Feri started.  Bhajans and Cosmic Chants were sung with heartfelt devotion.

Bengaluru now becomes the 13th city in India to have a road named after our beloved Gurudeva Paramahansa Yogananda. In the past some major roads in the cities: Igatpuri, Jammu, Kadapa, Lalitpur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Noida, Nuzvid, Rajamundry, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Visakhapatnam have been named “Paramahansa Yogananda Path”  or “Paramahansa Yogananda Marg.”

The “Paramahansa Yogananda Road”  in Bengaluru, is right opposite to Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Mandir, and is a 3.3 km long road connecting National Highway 4 at one end to Indiranagar main road at the other end.
