Flood Relief in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh

January 13, 2016

The unabated rainfall in November – December 2015 left a trail of destruction and devastation in coastal north Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Chennai and districts of  Cuddalore, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh were affected the most.

As soon as it was possible, YSS initiated relief activities in these flood affected areas by providing food, medical care, blankets, tarpaulins, clothes, cooking utensils, solar lanterns, drinking water, educational aids for children, and other essential supplies to the affected people. YSS covered more than 40 such areas in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh along with the help of district and local administration, where the poor and socially deprived section of the people lived, and other relief agencies had not reached.

A partial list of the areas to which we could reach out is as follows: Cuddalore District (2,000 families), Kancheepuram District (2,750 families), Tiruvallur District (1,300 families),  Ennore, in north Chennai (450 families), and Nellore District (1,575 families).

We are deeply grateful to all the local devotee-volunteers who forgot their own suffering and tirelessly went about serving “God in all” in the affected areas for more than a month.

As the survivors strive to regain a normal life, they need not only material resources but also the spiritual support of our prayers, and we request you to join us in praying for their spiritual, mental, and material well-being.
