Welcome to the September edition of the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India eNewsletter. This month we share inspiring thoughts from Paramahansa Yogananda on Kriya Yoga, India’s ancient sacred science of God-realisation that he brought to the world. Paramahansa Yogananda on Kriya YogaKriya Yoga is the highest method of God contact. In my own search for God I traveled all over India, and heard wisdom from the lips of a number of her greatest masters. I can therefore vouch for the fact that in Self-Realization [Yogoda Satsanga] teachings are the highest truths and scientific techniques given to mankind by God and the Great Ones. The aftereffects of Kriya bring with them the utmost peace and bliss. The joy that comes with Kriya is greater than the joys of all pleasurable physical sensations put together. “Unattracted to the sensory world, the yogi experiences the ever new joy inherent in the Self. Engaged in divine union of the soul with Spirit, he attains bliss indestructible” (Bhagavad Gita V:21). The centre of consciousness for the average individual is his body and the outer world. The yogi changes his centre of consciousness by nonattachment to the body and to worldly hopes and fears. By a technique — such as Kriya Yoga — of consciously controlling the life processes that tie the consciousness to the body (stilling the heart and breath), the yogi becomes established in the eternal wisdom—perception of Spirit that manifests in the spiritual centre of cosmic consciousness in the brain. Those who practice the technique of Kriya deeply for even a little while, and sit long in meditation in the resultant stillness, find that the force of their prayer is doubled, trebled, a hundred times more powerful. Please enjoy the following archival video footage of Swami Anandamoy at the dedication of the Paramahansa Yogananda Smriti Mandir (memorial temple) in Ranchi, India, 1995. On this occasion he delivered a powerful talk on Paramahansaji’s role in presenting to the world the sacred Kriya Yoga technique, by which all people may be led “steadily and surely to the perception of divinity within.” Satsanga With Sri Mrinalini Mata: A Retrospective of Her Loving WisdomContinuing our tribute to Sri Mrinalini Mata, late Sanghamata and President of YSS/SRF, we are happy to share with you a new sampling of her writings and videos from the many classes and talks she gave over the course of several decades. |

International Day of Peace: September 21Join us in observing the International Day of Peace on September 21. Established by a United Nations resolution in 1981, this annual event is devoted to commemorating and strengthening “our personal and planetary progress toward peace.” It is a reminder of what individuals, organisations, and nations alike can contribute to the creation of global world peace. Please enjoy this prayer with a guided meditation from Paramahansaji, showing how you can actively engage in the effort to bring world peace—finding inner peace within and promoting peace on earth through the dynamic power of prayer: |
